Outflow vs Rocket Money: track subscriptions without handing over your bank login
Rocket Money is good at one thing people genuinely need: finding the recurring charges you forgot about. But it does it by connecting to your bank through Plaid, and it charges a monthly fee that you set yourself — most people land at $6–$12/month. If you've searched "is Rocket Money safe" or "Rocket Money alternative", this page is the honest comparison.
The core difference
Rocket Money reads your bank account. Outflow reads a statement you show it. Scan or import a bank/card statement (PDF or screenshot) and Outflow's on-device AI finds the recurring charges in it, then adds them all in one tap. Same discovery outcome — no credentials shared, no third-party data processor, nothing uploaded. Outflow's App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.

Be fair: when Rocket Money is the better pick
If you want an app to negotiate bills or cancel services on your behalf, or you need Android or fully automatic transaction syncing, Rocket Money offers services Outflow deliberately doesn't. Outflow's position is simple: those conveniences aren't worth handing over bank credentials and a monthly fee — a statement scan gets you the discovery without either.
When Outflow is the better pick
- You're uncomfortable giving an app your bank login (or Plaid access).
- You think a subscription tracker shouldn't itself be a subscription.
- You want reminders before renewals and a heads-up before big yearly charges.
- You're an iPhone/iPad/Mac user who values native design, widgets and Siri.
